The specialised tour uses selected stations to show how humanity has evolved according to current knowledge. The guided tour for school classes is based on the guidelines and curricula of schools in NRW for biology lessons (upper secondary level).
We start the specialist tour with a brief insight into the most important scientific methods within palaeoanthropology and ask: ‘Where do our findings actually come from?’ In dialogue, we then explore the topic of human evolution in greater depth at various stations and using selected exhibits such as fossil tooth and skull casts. Topics such as nutrition/subsistence, language and brain development, early tool technology and genetics are addressed, as well as the development of the permanent upright gait and the origins of humanity on the African continent. We round off the tour with a final overview of the ‘human stream’ using well-known fossil finds and reconstructions such as ‘Lucy’ (Australopithecus afarensis). The tour is also available in English for a small surcharge.
