FAQ for families

The museum and the Höhlenblick adventure tower (discovery site) are open from Tuesday to Friday between 10 am and 6 pm. During the NRW school holidays, the museum is open all day, including Mondays. The museum is also open on public holidays and bridge days. Exceptions: Closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Eve. Different opening hours: New Year's Day 1 to 6 pm.

On average, our guests spend around two hours in the museum and another hour visiting the discovery site with the Höhlenblick tower. However, you can also spend a whole day with us. The museum is located in the centre of the beautiful Neandertal nature reserve. The hiking trails around the Ice Age Animal Park invite you to go hiking or walking. If you have children, you should definitely plan some time for the Stone Age Playground.

Of course, we cannot generalise. However, we recommend a visit from the age of four to five. There are lots of hands-on stations in the museum, especially for children, where even younger children will have fun. Infants up to the age of three are admitted free of charge.

Yes, you can take both your pushchair and bags into the exhibition. Lockers are available in front of the entrance to the exhibition for a fee (50 cent).
