How do we know about people who lived long before us in the Stone Age? The traces and artefacts they left behind gives us clues about how they lived. Using a brush and trowel, you will carefully excavate, document and compare artefacts to uncover ancient truths about our ancestors. Bit by bit, you will get closer to the human way of life in the Palaeolithic and Neolithic periods. Set off on an exciting search for clues!
In the one-and-a-half-hour workshop, you will work as archaeologists in teams (small groups) and be responsible for a large excavation box. You will systematically search for and document all objects, fragments and traces before taking them out of the ground. Then it's off to the labs, to analyse and identify the objects with the help of comparative objects. In this way, you will learn how to deal with the objects in a source-critical manner. Finally, you will briefly present your results to the whole class.
