On a walk through the woodland between the museum and the Ice Age Animal Park, you will experience the tension between man and nature. The various works of art challenge you to reflect on the nature of mankind and are intended to lead you to a new way of looking at nature.
The works of ten artists of international renown combine with the landscape in ever new ways on the circular route along the Düssel. Many of the works literally have to be discovered or change their state depending on the season. The Art Trail is located in a public space and can therefore be visited at any time of day.
The Art Trail starts from the Neanderthal Museum directly behind the Stone Age Playground. Along the 1,200 metre-long art trail, there is an audio station at each work of art, which can be operated mechanically using a crank drive. This allows you to listen to the artists' explanations.
Follow the Art Trail to reach the Ice Age Animal Park, where you can discover animals such as aurochs, tarpans and bison on a circular trail. Fancy a longer hike? The neanderland STEIG leads you around the entire district in 17 stages over a distance of almost 240 kilometres.
The Art Trail is part of the Neandertal World of Discovery. Other highlights such as the Neanderthal Discovery Site with the Höhlenblick tower, the Stone Age Playground and the Ice Age Animal Park await you. Located between Düsseldorf and Wuppertal, you can enjoy a varied day out here whatever the weather.
