Are you preparing for the central A-levels in biology and want to deepen your knowledge of human evolution? In this workshop, you will work in small groups to analyse 12-15 casts of fossil hominin skulls according to morphological criteria. Together we will classify the skulls, taking into account the findings of other disciplines such as palaeogenetics, age dating and environmental reconstruction. These insights into current research show how we currently imagine human development and which questions are still unanswered.
In an introductory discussion, you will be given specific observation criteria and an introduction to the specialist terminology. In the practical part, you will form small groups. Each small group will have 3-4 casts at their disposal. You will describe and analyse them using an observation sheet. Finally, you will present your findings in plenary and categorise the skulls in terms of human development. The workshop is also offered in English for a small surcharge.
